Background information

Started at the end of 2007.

Known now as 0093 – Lingling puns as double zero in Mandarin – this labyrinth of a former bomb shelter houses over ten dedicated rehearsal rooms where dozens of Shanghai's bands, particularly younger and more stylistically underground bands, practice their music. The venue has fomented a tightened musical community that has blossomed into a regular 0093 concert series, often giving new bands their first chance to step onstage. Certainly, young Shanghai bands have been proliferating at an unprecedented rate over the past two years, and much of the support necessary to thrive can be attributed to 0093 and its directors Jiang Shaoqing (who goes by Lao Jiang) and Wang Xiaotian (known as Tiantian).[1]

March 8th, 2008, 0093 held its third showcase at the Yuyintang.[2]

April 19th, 2008, 0093 held its fourth showcase at the Yuyintang with Sour Rain, BlacKRomancE, Wildcat, Joker, Crazy Mushroom, Little Nature and Mortal Fools.[3][4]

In October / November 2009, they 0093 at Lingling Lu closed for refurbishments.[5]

In June 2010, the 0093 re-opened at a new location at 1228 Quxi Lu, near Dapuqiao Lu.[6] On July 29th and 30th, the 0093 held their third anniversary party at the Yuyintang. According to Jake Newby: The turn out was good and so was the atmosphere. The problem with having so many bands play is that you have to rattle through them pretty quickly. Some of the earlier bands did four or five songs, but some of the later ones, wary of the time, could only do three. That was a shame, because to my mind the later bands were the better ones.[7]
