Arty-fashionable melodies (yishu shidai qu)

term coined in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century, used for describing songs, that included a more emotion-focussed way of expression of 'European art songs' (ouzhou yishu gequ). These songs were composed as a opposing musical force to the so-called Yellow Songs (huangse gequ).[1]
