History

The band was founded by Pupi, who is from the Guangzhou Xinghai Music Institution, in early 2008. After a few times of rehearsal with friends of hers, the band had found its 3 other parts: Abe Gan for guitar and synth, YuXin for bass and LiSiTong for the beats.

After they found their style in the sound, The Bigger Bang soon produced their first 4 songs within only 4 months. This uptown rock and indie funkdelic band then hurricaned all the live houses in Beijing with their futuristic full-filled-with-energy sound. Every weekend The Bigger Bang rocked the audiences and they just couldn't be stopped. They were the biggest star either on or off the stage. The time they put into had earned them experiences and fans. The style they had refreshed everybody's mind.

In the end of 2008, bassist YuXin left the team for his zen dreams. Then LiYu aka AZ joined band. The new blood that AZ brought in had pumped The Bigger Bang into a higher level. They entered the Redbull original energy music competition and won the "best song of the year" award, very surprisingly, out of dozens of bands. Meanwhile, with the help of their friends, The Bigger Bang had its first live DVD made. A disc full of their work and efforts.

The Bigger Bang went on with its stormy live performances in 2009, Inland and overseas. And its many songs have joined many VA indie rock albums from Beijing, Shanghai and Taiwan. Also this year, The Bigger Bang released its first EP.

The Bigger Bang now has 9 songs which are all in English.

On January 11th, 2009, their songs She and Okkk were included in the compilation King-Size China 2nd Anniversary (VA).

August 8th 2009, they performed during the InMusic Festival 2009 on the Zhangbei Grasslands on the Stage 2. September 19th, they performed as main act with Sonnet supporting in the Yuyintang. According to Jake Newby: If Sonnet weren't quite on top form, Bigger Bang! certainly were. (...) the packed crowd was able to get up nice and close. They produced a blistering set and proved themselves a class live act.[1]

On January 9th, 2010, they performed at Shanghai's Yuyintang. According to Andy Best: Bigger Bang clearly toned it down a bit as they were officially supporting TooKoo, and sharing half its members, so we didn't get the video intro and explosive entrance like last time. (...) There was a good contingent of fans who knew the songs and were there to get down despite a generally mellow crowd.[2]

In the February 2010 issue of TimeOut Beijing, Shen Lihui and Team Time Out named them as one of the top acts in 2010.[3] On March 8th, they performed at the Yugong Yishan during the Women's Day Celebrations. According to Beijing Daze: They seemed to have a few technical issues and had trouble with the synth/guitar mix. Pupi ( lead singer) was displaying moves worthy of a graduate from Kang Mao School of Epileptic Dancing (Kang Mao is lead Singer of The Subs) and her vocals as sharp as ever. They just seemed to be going through the motions that night.[4] On March 12th, they performed at the Mao Live during the Late Nite With TooKoo & Friends gig. According to Beijing Gig Guide: (...) this was a great show. The lead singer, Wang Jing, had an irresistible presence on stage, and their music had that Yeah Yeah Yeah’s quality that almost all indie rock groups with a kick-ass female vocalist seem to. Whether they could be called derivative or not, the show was fun, easy to kick up your heels to, and Bigger Bang! are definitely worth a second viewing.[5] On April 9th 2010, they performed at the D-22. According to the Beijing Gig Guide: Finally, Bigger Bang took the stage and we moved spots to watch from the regular vantage point of in front of the fourth wall, rather than above it. It was yet another stellar performance from Pupi; it’s no secret that the punky female vocalists will get all the attention at a show, but she has a great band to back her up. And I have to say, as much as Bigger Bang is newer and less experienced, I think I might like them better than Queen Sea Big Shark when it comes to Chinese groups that remind me of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.[6] On August 8th, they performed as support act to Handsome Furs in the 2 Kolegas. According to Beijing Daze: There was more singing and playing as opposed to screeching. The band was tight and pulled a classic set that i did enjoy! There was some really good chemistry between band members as they spent a lot of time smiling towards each other and Pupi did spend a lot of time gazing at the audience, making eye-contact which I take as a good sign.[7] On August 27th, they performed at the Yugong Yishan, Beijing, during the Zippo Hit List event numero 4. According to Beijing Daze: The bands played their classic gigs like Shanghai Love and threw in a few curve balls such as a punked up cover of Joan Jett’s “I hate myself for loving you” that had the crowd jumping up and down!
