History
2009
Moon Tyrant was founded over the summer of 2009, first getting together on July 4. Their first show was on November 4 at Yuyintang's New Faces night. They played again at Yuyintang in early December before traveling to Suzhou the next week for a show at WAVE Rock! Suzhou to play with Quarter Acre.
2010
On January 9th, 2010, they performed at Shanghai's Yuyintang, opening for Bigger Bang and Tookoo. According to Andy Best: Moon Tyrant are new but did a good job warming up the early crowd with their classic rock stylings. It wouldn't be fair to put them under any kind of scrutiny at this point but I'll say that the audience liked them. Good job guys.[1] After not having played any shows since then, Moon Tyrant once again took the stage at Yuyintang along with British pop-punk band Mike TV on April 22nd.
The band has since kept gigging consistently, and has played in Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Wuhan.
2011
On March 26, 2011, Moon Tyrant released their first album, Future Superhuman. The released was celebrated with a party at Yuyintang, featuring performances by Friend or Foe, Weghur, and Dragon Pizza.
On June 25th, they performed as part of the Shanghai: The Gathering concert at the VOX bar in Wuhan. According to luwanrock: The real winner of the night was Moon Tyrant. They brought it. Great show, guys.[2] According to Mr. Fossy: Moon Tyrant are in the process of poisoning themselves by paining metallic facepaint onto their skin for every show. I’m pretty sure it’s not a great idea, but it looks nifty. They were the last on stage though, and I like sequences, so…[3]
In July 2011, Moon Tyrant joined the Rock Naadam 2011 tour of Mongolia organized by DJ BO. Alongside Shanghai acts Boys Climbing Ropes and The Horde, as well as local acts Mohanik and The Lemons, they played shows in Ulan Bator's Asa Circus and Sukhbaater Square and in Darkhan village's central square. A thunderstorm erupted during the Sukhbaater Square show, but the band played on in the pouring rain.
2012
Moon Tyrant kicked off the new year with a trip to Beijing, accompanying Mongolian friends, Mohanik. The bands played D-22 on what turned out to be the club's last ever performance. The band's new single, "I Am the Way", was featured on the We Are Shanghai (VA) compilation CD.
