History

Multi-Ego (in Chinese 猫踢狗, means "cat kicks dog") is a screamo/post-hardcore band stemming from Tongzhou of Beijing, China. The band grew out of the campus of Beijing Contemparary Music Academy in late 2008, the band members having an average age of 19 years old, consisting of guitarists Yu Chen(于晨), Liu Zhe(刘哲) and drummer Li Yuepeng(李跃鹏) shortly after they began the first school semester. Half a year later came in the bass player Guo Changhai(郭长海) and lead vocalist Hang Yu(杭昱)(Communication University of China). Similar to many other bands stemming from Beijing, the rock center of China, the integrity of the band lineup has always been challenged by the cruelty of reality in its early days.

In May and June 2009, they took part in the Master Brand ICE FORCE band competition and made the North Division first place for the Screamo and Post-Hardcore genre. In March 2010,the former drummer left for the Raving Radio and the band came to a stop for three months. Three months later the present drummer Miao Wei(缪伟) (also drummer of the band Moonless Archeron) picked up the drumsticks and got the band running again.

Their heavy musical passages are intertwined with a strong breakdown, easily understood melodies and the bursting tension of the indie scene.

2011

On June 5th, 2011, they performed at the Mao Livehouse. According to Beijing Daze: Multi Ego, supposedly the heros of the hardcore scene, were beyond disappointing! The band sounded out of sync, the music was crap as if none of the instruments were tuned. The singer looked like he was on his way to a boys band reunion and took a wrong turn. The only bright point for them was what sounded like a decent drummer. If these guys are some of the best the scene has to offer, then I’m a bit scared for the Hardcore scene in Beijing.[1]

2012

In 2012, Multi-Ego played VANS-TANG Stage on the 2012 MIDI Music Festival and later on Island Stage of 2012 Summer Sonic, Asia's largest music festival and a 5 piece Japan Tour together with label mates NewTank.[2]
