Lyrics
No More Nice Girls
no more nice girls, no more nice girls
no more nice girls, no more nice girls
what is nice?
your should tell me, show me, send me
you wanna me to be nice nice nice
oh impossible ...
be quite be shy or be stupid?
be quite be shy or be stupid?
no more nice girls, no more nice girls
no more nice girls, no more nice girls
what is naughty?
i tell you, show you, sent you
i drive you naughty naughty naughty
girl so rock is not bad...
so wild so riot so weird?
so wild so riot so weird?
Ourselves Beside Me
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
beside beside beside me
beside beside beside me
step on the door don't tell me that you haven't courage
show your hand don't tell she is dirty
she is dirty, she is dirty
she is dirty, she is dirty
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
ourselves beside me
You Hate Me, But I Love You
you like this, but i like that
you love this, but i love that
you hate this, but i love this
you hate that, but i love that
you like yes, but i like no
you love red, but i love black
you hate pain, but i love fun
you hate sour, but love sweet
you like open, but i like lock
you love lose, but i love find
you hate low, but i love high
you hate me, but i love you
you like come, but i like go
you like eat, but i love puke
you hate poor, but i love rich
you hate love, but i love hate
Rock Star
no reason just miss you now
no reason just miss you now
hey boy genius, you know you are my rock star
hey boy genius, you know you are my rock star
Sad and Low
blue, white, green, and amber
the sea we will never sink
is so shallow that we can only stroll
however,
it is so hot that we melt
just like ice in the water of love.
the sand is so quiet that we fall
just like our kisses,
sad and low
Roller Coaster
where will we go?
where will we go?
the place where star falling
dazzling grass
air to fill with like crystal ash
where will we go?
where will we go?
ray to fill like......
ray to fill like......
roller coaster yeah yeah yeah
roller coaster yeah yeah yeah
go go go go go go go go
go go go go go go go go
Shanghai
what is shanghai?
rich white cock and hungry yellow chick
what is shanghai?
stupid white cock and sharp yellow chick
let me in, let me out
let me in, let me out
let you in, let you out
let you in, let you out
year by year......a ha
year by year......a yeah
oh~ our shanghai is international
oh~ our shanghai is a 1
we can to keep such great white cock
we can to sell such great yellow chick
girls come here right now
boys come here right now
shanghai is a beautiful city
also is a stupid city
shanghai is a beautiful city
shanghai is a stupid city
Cherry Tree
the spring water nested in a hole in a rock
shimmers softly when disturbed
the vibrations of the ground
have given birth to strong waves
which crash together in an irregular swell
on the surface with out cresting if there's
a verb meaning "to move harmoniously"
is must be used here the cherry tree
gripped in shadows spread out and curl up
sway and twist, to the rhythm of the water
but the interesting things is that however much
they change they keep the shape of a cherry tree

In their tumultuous near-decade of existence, Hang on the Box may have, at one point, captured a genuine punk aesthetic with their disdain and anger. As the cover to No More Nice Girls shows, their final era is better represented by baby-doll dresses and pigtails – and music that’s just as soft.
Drummer Shenggy left the group after her alt-noise awakening (the influence of which is nevertheless apparent in several hit-or-miss vocal experiments on this record), while bassist Yilina remains invisible next to limelight-hogging frontwoman Wang Yue (or “Gia”), who’s always struck me as a poseur. After ten years, she still can’t play her guitar (the album’s guitar tracks are handled by guest players), and it’s clear she’s in it just for the style. She thinks she’s hot, and wants you to think so too. In the song Shanghai, she croons, in that Chinglishy love-you-long-time sing-song of hers, “We can to keep such great white cock.” Who gets off on that, I wonder?
Sure, the song somewhat addresses yellow fever – though it’s something that Gia’s generally vapid lyrics fuel more than attack (I’m sure we’ll hear more about it in her upcoming tell-all). Nevertheless, the album’s final track, Ourselves Beside Me, reminds us – whether or not it actually has anything to do with the kick-ass, reemerged all-girl trio on the scene that shares that song’s name – that Hang on the Box did their part in paving the way for many bands today. But now that they’re on a permanent vacation, they can stop trying so hard.
