Taxonomy

Introduction

This wiki is basically served by two major domains:

http://www.rockinchina.com
http://www.music-china.com

There are also a number of subdomains serving this wiki, such as

http://white.rockinchina.com
http://jazz.rockinchina.com

but for the purpose of URI and identifying resources the upper two domains will serve.

The reason for both domains is that originally, there had been only www.rockinchina.com for our project Rock in China which focussed pre-dominantly on Rock Music and surrounding genres. With extension of the website to other genres an additional domain was included with a new landing side to other genres.

Semantic Classes & Mediawiki Categories

Similar to the WIKIPEDIA, there are a lot of categories within this Mediawiki system. However by far NOT ALL of these categories are to be seen as classes. E.g. on an artist page the following categories might be present:

  • Artists
  • 1989
  • Beijing Artists
  • Rock Artists
  • Disbanded Artists

however ONLY the first category (Artists) is to be seen as class. The other categories are kept in the system for a number of purposes with a main reason being performance speed when certain functions are being called upon.

As a rule, whenever a Category page is defining via (sameas) property to another CLASS of any given taxonomy, then this category can be taken as semantic class. Apart from that, the specifically set up semantic classes are mentioned within the semantic approach project page.

All artists in this wiki are being called upon with the following URL:
http://www.music-china.org/w/ARTISTNAME
