Self-introduction
We are a recording label and creative collective out of Shanghai, China. Our primary goal is to bring awareness to creative things happening in Shanghai and encourage its growth through collaboration and sourcing.
A Bit of History
Zang Nan Recordings is a record and promotion label from Shanghai which began in early 2011 with the idea of growth in the music scene via cooperation and use of various talents of sorts. Zang Nan Recordings was co-founded by Nichols （五毛） from Rainbow Danger Club and Bren （瑞安） from Stegosaurus? Zang Nan organized their first event on May 13, 2011. The show was comprised of various bands from Shanghai as well as some local standup comedians. Zang Nan is also involved with free college shows in cooperation with Live Bar and Guillaume from the band X is Y, the first of which featured X is Y, CAssette from Beijing, and The Song Dynasty.
Shortly after Zang Nan took flight, Ivan of Twin Horizon asked for the assistance of Zang Nan to help compile, design, promote, and release a comprehensive compilation of some of the indie bands that are making and recording original music in Shanghai. Many bands responded and the result was the compilation entitled We Are Shanghai. It was released under the names of Twin Horizon, Luwan Rock, and Zang Nan Recordings on January 13, 2012.
